BIOGRAPHY
MOMENTS THAT DEFINE ME

In 1992, my family moved from Belgrade, where I was born, to Johannesburg, South Africa. My first day of school in South Africa was certainly momentous, not knowing any English and being forced into a classroom had quite an impact on me. With no way to communicate besides hand signals, it left me in some rather strange situations. There are only so many ways to ask to go to the bathroom using your hands. Quickly, I adapted and started to pick up the language and master the accent so that I would fit right in. I was finally adjusted to this new place, when four years later, my parents decided to move to the United States. I thought not knowing the language in South Africa was difficult; try having an accent in a New Jersey public school. Years later, as an undergrad Psychology student at Rutgers University, I began working at the daily newspaper as a photographer and designer. This is when I realized that I was pursuing the wrong degree. Not wanting to give up, I completed my degree in psychology, and began planning to attend The Art Institute of New York. It was now clear to me that I wanted to be a graphic designer. I had finally started taking classes in a field that I had a genuine interest in as well as talent and it showed. Receiving high remarks from my teachers was the first time I felt truly successful in school; I knew I had made the right choice. Impressed with my work, my teachers recommended me for many freelance opportunities that helped shape me as a designer. This experience prepared me for my first position out of school at Atelier Design Group where I honed my craft in a variety of print and web design projects. In 2008, I joined The Breton Group where I have had the ability to not only learn a great deal about print design but also to develop my ability to work on web projects using a variety of tools and techniques. I am constantly looking to my next defining moment in the world of design.
